Abstract

The article presents an analysis of section 8B0-8B2 “Cerebrovascular diseases” of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) 11th revision, which will officially enter into force in 2022. Diagnoses of transient ischemic attack and cerebral ischemic stroke can be encoded in the blocks “Cerebral ischemia” (8B10, 8B11, 8B1Y, 8B1Z), 8B22 “Certain specified cerebrovascular diseases” and 8B23 “Cerebrovascular abnormalities”. If the patient’s condition meets the criteria for stroke and it is impossible to determine the type of stroke using neuroimaging or other examination methods, code 8B20 “Stroke not specified as ischemic or hemorrhagic” can be used. Codes of block 8B25 “Late effects of cerebrovascular disease” should be applied 1 month or later after the onset of cerebrovascular disease.
