Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the opportunities of practical application of music therapy for the comprehensive treatment of Alzheimer’s disease according to the analysis of scienti-fic publications over the past five years in journals indexed by Scopus, WоS, MedLine and PubMed. The analysis showed that music effects positively on the cognitive function in patients with dementia due to the ability to stimulate neuroplasticity of the brain and cholinergic activity of the autonomic nervous system, to strengthen the blood flow of the brain, to ease stress and pathologic adrenergic effects. Music therapy is an effective and safe method to improve memory, reduce depression, anxiety and agitation in Alzheimer’s patients. The wider application of the method in the neurological practice could increase the effectiveness of the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.
