Dysfunction of «Eyelid — Eye» System: Perspective for Diagnosis

S.A. Likhachev, O.A. Alenikova, I.S Goursky

Abstract

Disturbance of coordinated work of oculomotor muscles and elevator muscle of upper eyelid due to defects in controlling influence of the supranuclear structures of the brain leads to a different symptom complexes, such as apraxia of eyelid opening, upper eyelid retraction, blepharospasm, impairment of «eyelid — eye» coordination, eyelid nystagmus, etc.
To date, neurophysiological registration, analysis and quantification of the severity of these motor disorders had been developed insufficiently or are absent in general due to lack of appropriate equipment and/or software and hardware systems. We have proposed and implemented a method for quantitative evaluation of coordination state in «eyelid — eye» system with the possibility of graphic recording and quantifying the disorders.

Keywords

eyelid movement; violations; eyelid retraction; «eyelid — eye» coordination
