Abstract

A comprehensive clinical, laboratory and instrumental examination of 193 patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection aged 23 to 47 years has been performed using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), including intravenous administration of contrast material. MRI is the most effective method of X-ray diagnosis of brain lesions in HIV infection, it helps to reveal the affected area and the prevalence of process, to make a differential diagnosis between the formation (lymphoma in HIV), inflammatory (opportunistic infections) and the vascular nature of the process, as well as to identify brain substance lesions, typical of Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome, on the background of this pathology.
