Chronic Migraine: Principles of Management (Literature Review)

M.Yu. Delva, O.S. Nikiforova

Abstract

The article discusses and analyzes the current literature data about migraine complication — chronic migraine. It was described the scientific and clinical evolution of diagnostic criteria for chronic migraine. The article analyzed chronic migraine rates, its negative impact on patients’ life quality and functional abilities. The overview explains main risk factors, pathogenetic mechanisms and neuroimaging markers of migraine transformation into its chronic form. It was emphasized the leading role of central sensitization in migraine chronification. The article presents the principles of effective prophylaxis and adequate evidence-proved preventive treatment of chronic migraine.

Keywords
