Features of the state of autonomic nervous system of children with chronic giardiasis

A.A. Zaslavskaya

Abstract

Background. The relevance of the study is associated with the prevalence of giardiasis. A set of pathogenetic factors leads to a violation of the autonomic regulation of the nervous system. Until now, the question of the relationship between giardiasis and the characteristics of the autonomic state remains understudied. In view of the above-mentioned, the purpose of this paper was to study the state of the autonomic nervous system in patients with chronic giardiasis. Materials and methods. To achieve this goal, 187 children aged 7 to 18 years with a chronic course of giardiasis were examined, as well as 92 children of the same age without this parasitic invasion. The study of autonomic functions was carried out by determining the autonomic tone (Kérdö index, Hildebrandt coefficient were calculated), autonomic reactivity (Dagnini-Aschner reflex and Chermak-Goering reflex were studied), as well as the autonomic support of activity (using an orthostatic test). Results. The study showed a significant decrease in the indicators of autonomic tone, indicating the vagotonic orientation of the autonomic processes, an increase in the values of autonomic reactivity, which reflects the vagotonic nature of the autonomic response, and an imbalance in the indicators of the autonomic provision of activity, reflecting the lack of the latter. Identified changes were observed in most children with chronic giardiasis. Vagotonic tone was most often combined with excessive autonomic reactivity, and insufficient autonomic support of activity was observed against the background of vagotonic and normotonic autonomic tone. Conclusions. The data obtained allow us to conclude that changes in the functional state of the autonomic nervous system in children with chronic giardiasis must be taken into account when planning therapeutic measures.
